The Forester women's tennis team defeated visiting Lawrence University 8-1 on Friday (September 11). Lake Forest is now 3-1 on the season while the Viking's record fell to 3-3.
The Foresters swept the doubles competition for the third
straight match. Freshman Melika Celebic (Visoko, Bosnia
Herzegovina/United World College) teamed with sophomore Nonie Carson (Littleton, Colo./Littleton) for an 8-1 triumph at #1,
senior Molly Stapleton (St. Louis Park, Minn./Saint Louis Park) and
junior Natalie Atroshenko (Wheeling, Ill./Buffalo Grove) won by the
same score at #2, and junior Lauren Stroner (Johnsburg,
Ill./Johnsburg) partnered with sophomore Sara Bennett (Sioux City,
Iowa/Sioux City North) to blank their opponents 8-0 at #3.
Celebic was also victorious (7-5, 6-2) at the top spot in the
singles lineup. Stapleton did not lose a game at #3 and sophomore
Allison Hamel (Bend, Ore./Bend) prevailed 6-4, 6-0 at #4. Stroner
won 6-1 in both sets at #5 and Atroshenko posted an 8-2 victory at
#6.
Lake Forest will play its fourth consecutive home match at 10:00
tomorrow morning against Mount Mary College.
