Michelle Greeneway, a Lake Forest College soccer and hockey player from 2012-16, was listed among the top 100 student-athletes in the 100-year history of the Midwest Conference (MWC) on Monday.
As the MWC continues to celebrate 100 years of intercollegiate competition, it announced the release of the Centennial Celebration Top 100 on February 26. The Top 100 highlights the athletic and academic achievements of 100 former student-athletes from the fifteen institutions that currently sustain, or at some point in history maintained full membership with the league. The Top 100 reveal began on March 1 with the unveiling of honorees in chronological order by their respective class years. The league posts two honorees each weekday on its website and social media accounts.
Greeneway is the only woman in NCAA history with at least 100 career goals in both soccer and hockey.
Greeneway's 104 scores on the pitch rank tied-for-14th in NCAA Division III history while her 260 points are tied-for-20th. She owns three of the top 10 single-season goal and point totals in Midwest Conference history and both career marks are second in league annals. The forward finished her four years with at least one goal in 57 of the team's 80 games and having scored or assisted on more than half of Lake Forest's tallies during that span.
The Forester women's soccer team was 62-15-4 overall and 34-3-3 in conference play during Greeneway's career. Lake Forest captured league titles her freshman, junior, and senior seasons and the 2014 team started the year with 21 consecutive victories, a streak that reached the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Greeneway ranked fourth in the nation that year with 33 goals, including a conference record 11 game-winners.
Greeneway was named first team all-conference all four years and the MWC Offensive Player of the Year as a junior and senior. She was also a three-time First Team All-Region selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, which also selected her as a First Team All-American in 2014.
Several organizations also recognized Greeneway for her success in the classroom. She was named Second Team Academic All-American® as a junior and to the First Team the following year, in addition to being a member of the NSCAA Scholar All-American Team both seasons. The four-time academic all-conference honoree was also named MWC Woman of the Year in 2016.
Lake Forest women's hockey competes in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association and the Foresters were 66-26-13 overall and 51-14-9 in the NCHA with a league title and a pair of NCAA Division III Tournament appearances during Greeneway's career. She was a four-time All-NCHA selection, three-time NCHA All-Academic Team member, and two-time NCHA Player of the Year. The forward earned First or Second Team All-American honors from the American Hockey Coaches Association all four seasons and was the AHCA Laura Hurd Division III Player of the Year in 2015-16 after leading the nation with 33 goals. Greeneway still ranks tied-for-fifth in NCAA Division III history with 103 career scores.
