The Lake Forest College women's soccer team won 2-0 at Illinois College on Sunday to clinch at least a share of the 2012 Midwest Conference championship. A tie between Ripon College and host St. Norbert College Wednesday evening made it an outright title for the Foresters, who will now host the MWC Tournament the first weekend in November.
St. Norbert needed victories in its three games this week to tie Lake Forest atop the league standings. The Foresters' victory on Sunday gave them a final conference record of 8-1-1. The contenders for the other three spots in the four-team MWC Tournament are Monmouth College (6-2-1), Grinnell College (6-2-0), St. Norbert (5-2-1), and Carroll University (6-3-0).
The 2012 title is the Foresters' fourth in program history and their first since 2004.
Lake Forest will also host the MWC Men's Soccer Tournament that weekend. Game times for both tournaments have yet to be announced.
