The Lake Forest College women's soccer team routed visiting Knox
College 10-3 on Saturday (October 3). The Foresters raised their
overall record to 6-5-0 and lifted their Midwest Conference mark to
3-2-0. The Prairie Fire are now 1-8-0 after falling in their first
league contest of the season.
Lake Forest's 10 goals in the game was the team's highest scoring
output since netting 10 against Illinois College in 1997 and the 13
goals scored by both squad's are the most in Forester team
history.
It did not take long for the home team to get on the scoreboard.
Junior Bianca Greene (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica) played a
through-ball to freshman Becky Esrock (St. Louis, Mo./Whitfield
School), who kicked it past the Knox goalie less than two minutes
into the contest.
After the visitors tied the score at the 4:30 mark, the Foresters
took the lead for good at 9:35 on sophomore Erica May's (Tulsa,
Okla./Cascia Hall Prep) third goal of the season. Greene and junior
Emily Weber (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seven Hills Upper School) were each
credited with an assist.
Esrock netted her second goal of the game and team-high 12th of the
season at 16:10 with sophomore Isabel Brown (Tucson, Ariz./Tucson
Magnet) earning the assist.
Greene scored her first goal of the season and the official
game-winner at 17:39. She was assisted by freshman Lisa Sorensen
(Muskegon, Mich./Western Michigan Christian). Greene now has 14
points on five goals and four assists in three career games against
Knox.
Forester freshman Amanda Greco (Savoy, Ill./Champaign Central)
closed out the 4-0 run at 22:24 with her second goal this season.
Freshman Hailey Schleibinger (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond Burton)
earned the assist.
After the visitors trimmed the margin to 5-2, Schleibinger assisted
senior Emily Sadler (Everett, Wash./Cascade Senior) at 27:37 to
regain the home team's four-goal advantage. It was Sadler's second
goal of 2009.
Schleibinger then netted a pair of goals, her second and third of
the year, before the end of the first half. She scored the first at
31:31 and the second on a header at 40:24. Sophomore Christine Sorensen (Norton Shores, Mich./Grand Haven) recorded the assist on
Schleibinger's second goal, which gave the Foresters an 8-2 lead at
halftime.
Senior Jocelyn Maneval (Fairfax, Va./James W. Robinson) added her
second goal of the season at 63:54 off a pass from freshman Olivia Davis (Aspen, Colo./Aspen). It was Davis' first career point.
Knox's goal at 74:37 gave the visitors three goals for the first
time in 17 meetings with Lake Forest.
Finally, sophomore Mira Trebilcock (South Porcupine,
Ontario/Trinity College School) celebrated her birthday with her
first career goal at 77:08. Schleibinger assisted on the play,
giving her seven points in the game on two goals and three assists.
Trebilcock was the 13th player on the team to record at least one
point on the day.
Forester freshman goalkeeper Bri Schleibinger (Spring Grove,
Ill./Richmond Burton) played the game's first 60:43 and earned the
victory. She was replaced by classmate Caitlin Connors (Dover,
Mass./Dover-Sherborn) with 29:17 to play in the contest.
Lake Forest will be in action again next Tuesday (October 5) when
the team travels to Concordia University Wisconsin. The game will
begin at 4:30 p.m.
