Freshmen Brant Christensen and Louis Payne battled for an 8-7 (10-8) victory at #3 doubles but the Forester men's tennis team was defeated 7-2 at Chapman College in California Friday night.
The victory by Christensen and Payne evened the score at 1-1 but the home team quickly regained the lead with an 8-6 win at #2 doubles.
The Panthers added points at the bottom three and then top two spots in the singles lineup to clinch the match. Lake Forest's other triumph came at #3 singles, where junior Matt Kacyn came out on top of a 6-4, 7-5 decision to account for the final score.
The loss dropped the Foresters' record on the season to 4-6 while Chapman improved to 3-4.
Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play next Saturday against Ripon College. The match will be played indoors at the Racine Tennis Club and will begin at 10:00 a.m.
