Sophomore Nick Zazove posted a victory in singles and doubles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships at Kalamazoo College over the weekend.
After falling 7-5, 6-4 to the #7 seed at the event, Zazove prevailed 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of the consolation bracket. He was defeated 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 by an opponent who will play in the semifinals on Sunday.
Zazove and freshman Brett O'Brien posted an 8-6 victory in the first round of doubles before falling 8-3 to the #8 seed in round two.
O'Brien suffered a 6-3, 7-5 loss in the main draw in singles but rebounded with three straight hard-fought victories in the consolation bracket. He won 6-3, 7-5 in the round of 32 and 6-3, 4-6, (10-7) in the round of 16. He then added a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 triumph in the quarterfinals.
It was the only competition of the fall semester for Lake Forest. The team will begin its dual match schedule on February 2 at Elmhurst College.
