Bergmann, Mameledzija, and Four Other Foresters Honored by MWC

Bergmann, Mameledzija, and Four Other Foresters Honored by MWC

The 2013 All-Midwest Conference Men's Soccer Teams were released on Wednesday and Lake Forest College was well-represented. Mahir Mameledzija was named MWC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year and Steven Johnson, Kyle Kraus, Dylan Hartman, and Ethan Guenther also earned all-conference honors. Chris Bergmann repeated as MWC Coach of the Year.

Mameledzija, a senior forward, was the league's Player of the Year for the second straight season, earned MWC Offensive Player of the Year honors for the third consecutive year, and appeared on the league's First Team for the fourth time in his career. He led the conference in 2013 with 19 goals and 42 points and ranked among the top 20 in the nation in both categories. He also netted a league-high seven game-winning goals. Mameledzija's 28 points in 10 conference games were 10 more than any other player in the MWC and his 13 goals in league play were six more than second place. He finished his career with a conference record 72 goals and 165 points.

Johnson, a senior midfielder, was a First Team All-MWC selection for the second straight season after earning Second Team honors as a sophomore. He scored one goal and assisted on five others this year. Four of his assists were recorded during conference play.

Kraus, a junior sweeper, joined Mameledzija and Johnson as First Team All-MWC honorees. He anchored a Forester defense that allowed just 17 goals in 21 games this season and only four in 10 conference contests. Kraus also had three assists on the year, including two in league play.

Hartman, a sophomore forward, was a Second Team All-MWC selection after tying for fifth in the conference with eight goals and seventh with 20 points, despite playing in just 13 games. He tied for second in the league with seven goals and third with 15 points in eight MWC contests.

Guenther, a senior goalkeeper, was also a Second Team All-MWC honoree after earning First Team honors a year ago. He went 9-4-0 on the season with a league-best .804 save percentage. He also ranked fourth in the conference with a 0.85 goals against average and tied-for-sixth with three shutouts. His 0.39 goals against average and .857 save percentage during MWC games were the best marks in the league.

Bergmann was named MWC Coach of the Year for the second straight season. He led the Foresters to a 14-7-0 overall record and the team claimed its second straight league title with a 9-1-0 mark during conference play. Lake Forest hosted and won the 2013 MWC Tournament to earn the program's first bid to the NCAA Tournament since 1980.
