Men's basketball player Danny Nikitas was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead his team to Midwest Conference victories over Cornell College and Lawrence University.
Nikitas, a freshman point guard, scored 15 points and dished out a game-high six assists in Lake Forest's 82-70 triumph over Cornell at home on Saturday. He made two of three attempts from three-point range and nine of 10 free throws in the contest.
Lake Forest posted a convincing 78-60 victory at Lawrence University on Tuesday and Nikitas led all players in the game with a career-high 27 points. His eight three-pointers on the night (in 12 attempts) are a new program record and he added a game-high four assists.
Nikitas averaged 21 points and five assists per game on the week while shooting 10-for-15 from beyond the arc and 10-for-12 from the foul line. He raised his three-point field goal percentage on the season to .507, a mark that ranks among the national leaders.
The Foresters have won all three of their games since Nikitas returned from injury and are now 9-8 overall and 8-5 in MWC play this season.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
