Senior Maxie Mottlowitz had 10 kills and six blocks in her final career home match, helping the Forester volleyball team come from behind for a 22-25, 20-25, 28-26, 25-12, 15-10 victory over visiting Monmouth College on Saturday.
Mottlowitz matched her season-high for kills and four of her blocks were solos.
Freshman Olivia Smith led the home team with 17 kills and added 11 digs for her second double-double in as many days. Fellow freshman Olivia Grimmer was next on the team in kills with 12.
Freshman setter Hannah Nauert tallied 42 assists and 16 digs on the afternoon. She and Smith were just two of four players on the team with at least 10 digs, joining freshman Olivia Drevs, who had 10, and junior libero Grace Larson, whose career-high 30 were the most by a Forester in more than two years.
The first set went back-and-forth, with both teams ahead by as many as four before losing that lead. Witht he score tied at 19, Monmouth won three points in a row and traded points the rest of the way.
Monmouth took the first four points in set two but Lake Forest came back and pulled ahead by one four times, the last at 14-13. The visitors won the next four points and did not relinquish the lead, taking the set by five.
Set three was also close throughout, with a 10-6 Forester advantage being the largest lead for either team. The score was tied at every number from 18 to 26 before kills by Grimmer and freshman Isabel Donnelly finished it off.
The Fighting Scots won the first three points of the fourth set and were ahead 6-4 before a five-point run put the Foresters ahead for good. The home team added a four-point run and a seven-point run in the set and rolled 25-12.
Lake Forest also won the first four points of set five and held the lead the rest of the way. The Scots pulled to within one at 7-6 but the Foresters took eight of the last 12 points to finish off the come-from-behind victory.
The Foresters are now 11-13 overall this season and 3-4 in Midwest Conference play. Monmouth fell to 7-18 overall and 1-6 in the league.
Lake Forest will play at Beloit College at 7:00 Tuesday night before closing out the regular season at Ripon College at the same time on Friday.
