Softball player Alex Hemmer was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead Lake Forest to a 5-1 record during the previous seven days.
Hemmer, a junior catcher and designated player, began the week by going 3-for-7 with two doubles and a home run in 9-1 and 2-1 victories over visiting University of Chicago last Thursday. Her fifth-inning grand slam in the opener put the Foresters ahead 6-1 and she doubled in two more runs in the sixth to give the home team an eight-run lead to end the game.
Lake Forest posted 14-0 and 25-3 victories at Knox College on Saturday and Hemmer was the catcher in game one, the 14th no-hitter in program history. She was also 2-for-2 at the plate with two walks, a double, two runs scored, and three driven in.
The Foresters split with Carthage College at home on Monday, falling 5-4 in the opener before winning game two 10-6. Hemmer belted her second home run of the week and fourth this season in the first inning of game one. She also bunted a run in and beat the throw to first in the third inning. She went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game two.
Hemmer batted .588 (10-for-17), drove in 13 runs, and posted a 1.118 slugging percentage for the week. She is now hitting .375 on the season and leads the team with nine doubles, 24 runs, 25 RBI, and a .766 slugging percentage.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Hemmer also earned the award once as a sophomore last year.
