Softball player Whitney Leiderman received her second consecutive Forester Athlete of the Week award on Thursday for her performance in a pair of Midwest Conference South Division doubleheader sweeps last weekend.
Leiderman, a freshman outfielder, was 6-for-14 with a team-high three home runs, six runs batted, and 1.143 slugging percentage in the four games combined. She also tied for the team lead with four runs scored.
Lake Forest defeated Knox College 2-1 in eight innings and 9-0 in six frames at home on Saturday. Leiderman's only hit of the day was a two-run home run in game two and she also drew a bases-loaded walk in the contest.
Leiderman's performace against visiting Grinnell College on Sunday was significantly more dramatic. She belted a walk-off home run in the ninth inning of the opener and added a leadoff homer in game two. She had five base hits in seven at-bats and added three runs scored and three RBI in the doubleheader.
Leiderman raised her batting average to .329 and leads the Foresters with 20 runs batted in this season. She has also drawn a team-high 11 walks and her eight stolen bases are tied for first on the squad.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
