The Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated the University of Scranton 6-2 in Hilton Head, South Carolina, on Thursday. Forester senior Elliot Muth prevailed in close matches at #2 doubles and #3 singles.
Muth and junior John Adams edged out their opponents 9-8 (8-6) at #2 doubles. Freshman Anthony Mykhaylovskyy and sophomore Jerry Wang also won 8-5 at #3, giving the Foresters a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
Lake Forest swept the top four spots in the singles lineup. Adams was the first to finish, winning 6-2, 6-1 at #2. Muth was next with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at #3. Sophomore Ryan Kreis followed with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at #1 that clinched the team win for the Foresters and sophomore Anthony Warren tacked on a hard-fought 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, (10-3) win at #4. Senior Nick Cantor prevailed 6-4 in the first set at #6 and was tied 1-1 in the second when the contest ended.
Scranton earned its team points at #1 doubles and #5 singles.
The Foresters return home after winning two of three completed matches during their Spring Break trip. Thursday's victory evened the team's overall record at 5-5 and dropped Scranton to 1-2.
Lake Forest will not play again until next Saturday afternoon's match at Wabash College at 1:00 (EST).
