The Lake Forest College men's soccer team came from behind to win 2-1 at Ripon College on Saturday and raise its overall record to 11-2-2 and Midwest Conference mark to 3-2-1. Sophomore Alexi Spiratos scored the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes to play in the contest.
Ripon headed in a corner kick in the 17th minute for the only goal of the first half. The Foresters out-shot the Red Hawks 6-4 in the period.
Lake Forest still trailed 1-0 until, with just 8:57 to play in regulation, Forester sophomore Mahir Mameledzija kicked in a rebound for his team-high 12th goal of the season. Classmate Steven Johnson attempted the previous shot to earn the assist.
Just 66 seconds passed before senior Chris Haught-Thompson's corner kick was sent past the Ripon goalie by Spiratos. It was his second goal of the season and the second game-winner of his career.
The Foresters had a 10-3 advantage on shots in the half and a 16-7 edge in the game. Lake Forest also had five corner kick opportunities to the Red Hawks' four.
Forester freshman goalkeeper Ian Taylor entered the contest after 21 minutes of play and recorded a pair of saves while holding the home team scoreless the rest of the way. He is now 3-0-0 on the season.
Ripon fell to 4-9-3 overall and 2-4-1 in league play this year.
Lake Forest will continue conference play tomorrow afternoon at Lawrence University. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
