At 13-2-1, this season's Lake Forest College men's hockey team owns the program's best record through 16 games since the 1977-78 team went 14-2-0 en route to a runner-up finish in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The Foresters' fast start has also drawn national attention. After sweeping an early November series at St. Norbert College, then the third-ranked team in the nation, Lake Forest began receiving votes in the U.S. College Hockey Online Top 15 Poll. The team remained among the poll's others receiving votes until completing the 2019 portion of its schedule at 9-2-1 and moving up to #13. A pair of weekend sweeps to begin 2020 have the Foresters at #7 this week, their highest ranking since reaching #4 in 2003-04.
With a 10-1-0 record in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play, the Foresters are six points clear of any other team in the league standings. They rank second in the conference in scoring offense, third in scoring defense, and second in power play and penalty kill percentage.
Lake Forest's success this season has been the result of contributions from many players and not the accomplishments of just a few individuals. Eight players on the team have reached double figures in points and 14 more have a least one goal or assist. In addition, 11 Foresters have scored one or more of the team's 13 game-winning goals.
Among the team's 13 victories are six one-goal triumphs, including two that went to overtime during the Foresters' current eight-hame winning streak. Lake Forest has yet to lose on the road, posting a 7-0-1 record away from Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
The next game on the Foresters' schedule is a league contest at Milwaukee School of Engineering next Tuesday night.
