Lake Forest College hosted the Contenders Champions Tournament over the weekend and Forester junior Dan Cordova was the runner-up among eight former winners of the Illinois Handball Association Contenders Tourney.
Cordova, who claimed his Contenders title last season, defeated Bill Mehilos 21-14, 21-14 in the quarterfinals before posting a 20-21, 21-15, 11-6 triumph over Dane Szatkowski in the semifinals. Both Mehilos and Szatkowski are former Foresters, as is 2008 Contenders champion Nikolai Nahorniak, who defeated Cordova 21-14, 21-4 to capture his second straight title in this event.
Lake Forest junior C.J. Laffey filled in for former ForesterShane Conneely in the drop-down bracket, where he defeated Anthony Selestow in the semifinals and Mehilos in the final.
The College will host the 2013 Contenders Tournament next weekend.
