(from midwestconference.org)

The 19th Midwest Conference Women's Golf Championship tees off on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Illinois, and will continue through Sunday with the champion earning the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship in May.

Defending champion Grinnell College comes into the three-round event with a conference-low 360.0 stroke average, but leading the way individually this season has been Lake Forest College's Allie Girard.  The sophomore has an 82.1 average, has the lowest three rounds in the league this year, and has been named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week three straight weeks.

Leading the way for Grinnell will be Hailey Speck and Kayleigh Kresse.  Speck finished 11th at last year's Championship and has finished in the top-10 in the three of the four events she has played in this season.  Kresse enters the weekend with an 87.4 stroke average and has two top-five finishes this fall.

Monmouth College finished fourth at last year's Championship, but has the second-best stroke average (363.0) and has the lowest round of any MWC school in 2014.  The Fighting Scots feature two golfers that have earned MWC Performer of the Week honors this season in Korrie Crawford and Anne Begley.  Crawford leads the squad with an 89.4 average, while Begley finished 15th at last year's Championship and has a top-five finish to her name this fall.

Carroll University had its string of four straight MWC Championship victories broken last season and hopes to get back the NCAA Championships.  Karoline Pirko leads the Pioneers with a 90.9 average.  Leah Stapelman is Carroll's top returner from last season as she finished 25th at the 2013 Championship.  She currently owns a 93.0 average.

Alex Linter has the fourth-best average (88.0) in the MWC season and leads Illinois College into the Championship.  Linter tied for fourth at Aldeen last season after shooting a 269, and has three top-10 finishes this season.  Teammate Emily Heiser has the eighth-best average in the league in 2014 and finished 26th in last season's event.

Lake Forest will be competing in the MWC Championships for the first time as 2014 is its first season of varsity competition.  Teaming up with Girard will be Alex Dunn and Frankie Corrado who have averages of 94.7 and 96.8, respectively.

Taylor Debski finished at 12th at last season's Championships and owns the lowest average for St. Norbert College this season (95.4).  Debski also has a top-10 finish this fall at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational. Kelsey Motto and Lauren Roethlisberger both have averages under 100 at 98.0 and 98.3, respectively.

Knox College will roll out a roster that features no returning players, and the Prairie Fire have yet to play this season. Abby Fish is Ripon College's lone representative in the Championship.  Fish competed at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational earlier this season and finshed a 98 and a 100 in her two rounds.

Saturday's second round tees off at 10:00 a.m., and Sunday's final round gets under way at 10:30 a.m.
