The 2013 season will be Attila Schmidt’s fourth as a member of the Forester coaching staff. He primarily assists with day-to-day recruiting operations, scouting, video analysis, alumni relations, trainings and matches. Schmidt currently holds a National ‘B’ License from the United States Soccer Federation and an Advanced National Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The Foresters have posted a 40-13-4 (.737) overall record during Schmidt's three seasons on staff. In addition, Lake Forest has led the conference in scoring and goals against average each of the last three years. The Foresters appearance in the four-team MWC Tournament in 2011 was their first in six seasons and they earned the right to host the event in 2012. The 2012 Foresters ranked 25th in the nation in scoring offense and 35th in goals against average while capturing the program’s first Midwest Conference championship in eleven years.
Lake Forest players have earned 11 All-MWC and five NSCAA All-Region honors in the last three years. In 2012, Mahir Mameledzija led the nation with 27 goals and 59 points and was named MWC Player of the Year, NSCAA All-American, and Capitol One Academic All-American while Ethan Guenther’s .897 save percentage ranked third in the country and his 0.44 goals against average was seventh.
Schmidt was a four-year letter winner, three-year starter, and two-time captain for the Foresters. His freshman year he was voted Most Improved Player of a squad that finished 12-2-2 overall. Schmidt earned All-MWC honors as a midfielder each of the next three years, including first team distinction as a sophomore and senior. The Akron, Ohio, native led the Foresters in goals and points his sophomore and junior seasons and in assists as a sophomore and senior. Eight of his 20 career goals were game-winners and his sophomore season he finished ranked tied-for-second in points during Midwest Conference league play. The two-time MWC Offensive Performer of the Week finished his four seasons ranked ninth in team history in career assists and tied-for-15th in team history with 58 career points in 58 matches played.
As a student, Schmidt earned Academic All-Conference Honors his final three seasons. He was also inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society in Economics.
