Matthew Jones is in his fourth year on the Forester coaching staff and third as the team's director of player development. He also serves in the same capacity for the women's team at the College.
The 2016-17 season was Lake Forest's third as a varsity sport since 1970 and the team posted its second straight runner-up finish at the Midwest Conference Championships, finishing just three strokes out of first place. A league-best four Foresters finished among the top 10 individuals in the conference to earn All-MWC honors and Davis DeKorte became the first Lake Forest player to earn medalist honors at the MWC Championships.
Jones also helped lead the 2016-17 Forester women to a seven-and-a-half-shot improvement per round from the year before and Lake Forest climbed a spot to third in the standings at the MWC Championships.
Jones has coaching experience in several sports. He began his golf coaching career as the head varsity girls coach at Glenbrook South High School in 2000. He switched to the varsity boys program in 2006 and directed that team until 2013. He also served as the boys varsity lacrosse coach at Glenbrook South from 2003-05 and again in 2013. Jones also served as Glenbrook South's assistant dean of students and psychologist during his 14 years at the school.
An alumnus of Lake Forest College and member of the 1992-93 Forester men's hockey team, Jones also served as an assistant hockey coach at Lake Forest Academy during the 1996-97 season and in the same capacity for the Chicago Young Americans Hockey Club from 2001-05.
After graduating from Lake Forest in 1995, Jones went on to earn a master's degree in education from National Louis University in 1998 and an education specialist degree in school physhology from the same institution in 2000.
Jones is also the Director of Education and Master Club Fitter for Edel Golf, based out of Austin, Texas. He is trained in BioSwing Dynamics and is a certified AimPoint Green Reading Instructor and Wright Balance Fitter.
He resides in nearby Grayslake, Illinois.
