Lake Forest College hosted the Illinois Handball Association Contenders Tournament over the weekend (November 10-21). Nine current Foresters participated in the 32-person field.
Once a player has won a Contenders title, he is not allowed to compete in the tournament in future years. The champion has been a Lake Forest College player every year since 1996 and junior Victor Perez (Los Angeles, Calif.) kept that streak alive on Saturday by posting a 21-18, 21-9 victory over Anthony Selestow in the championship match.
Sophomore Riley Kloss (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) won a pair of matches before falling in the the quarterfinals and junior Pat Jarvis (Chicago, Ill.) won his opener to reach the round of 16.
Sophomore Dan Sterrett (Oak Park, Ill.) and freshman Isaac Acosta (Ozone Park, N.Y.) each prevailed in the first round of the consolation bracket before falling in the quarterfinals.
Lake Forest will be in action again in two weekends (December 4-6) at the Milwaukee Classic.
