Women's basketball player Sam Schuring was named Forester
Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead Lake Forest to a
pair of important Midwest Conference victories.
Schuring, a junior point guard, matched career-highs with
28 points and five steals in Lake Forest's 83-67 triumph at
Monmouth College on Saturday. She shot 12-for-18 from the field and
also pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists in the
contest.
On Wednesday the Foresters defeated visiting Knox College
116-104 and clinched a spot in the four-team MWC Tournament.
Schuring made 11 of 16 field goal attempts and tied for team-high
honors with 25 points. She also added six boards as Lake Forest set
single-game teams records for points and rebounds (81).
Including her performance in a non-conference loss last Thursday
night at Milwaukee School of Engineering, Schuring averaged 19.7
points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.3 steals per game for the week. She
also shot 63.4 percent from the field.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic
Department on Thursdays. Schuring also earned the award twice last
season and was named MWC Performer of the Week on Monday.
