Foresters Defeat, Tie Illinois Tech in Final Dual Meet of the Season

Lauren Dalecky accounted for two of the eight individual event victories turned in by the Forester senior class against visiting Illinois Institute of Technology in their final career home meet on Saturday. The Lake Forest men defeated the Scarlet Hawks 145-82 and the women's teams tied 110-110.

Six of the Forester seniors contributed to a sweep in the meet's first event, the 200m-medley relay. Seniors Emily Bowens and Lauren Dalecky were joined by freshmen Rachel Trevillion and Kelsey Mitchell as the women posted a time of 2:09.04. On the men's side seniors Virgil Thomas, Josh Georgeff, Orion Huey, and Travis Johnson finished in 1:50.14.

Junior Lily McCarthy made it three Lake Forest victories in a row when she took the 800m-freestyle in 9:51.45.

Another Forester sweep came in the 50m-freestyle, where Dalecky finished in 29.03 seconds and Johnson with a time of 24.28.

Senior Sam Freedberg turned in perhaps the most convincing of the home team's victories when he won the 200m-IM in 2:14.03, 11 seconds ahead of the runner-up from Illinois Tech.

The Lake Forest seniors were honored before the first break for diving. In addition to Bowens, Dalecky, Thomas, Georgeff, Huey, Johnson, and Freedberg, Sean Flanigan, James Haney, Ryan Keast, Chris Martinez, and Lily Thorsen were recognized.

The 1-meter diving competition was next and freshman Lizzie Johns won the women's event with 243.45 points and sophomore Heath Ogawa took the men's with a score of 315.30.

Trevillion and Huey added a sweep in the 100m-fly with times of 1:10.52 and 59.18, respectively.

Junior David Bunting turned in the men's team's closest victory of the day, taking the 100m-freestyle in 54.67 seconds, 0.34 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Another Forester sweep came in the 100m-backstroke, where Bowens prevailed with a time of 1:07.51 and Thomas in 1:01.37.

Martinez and Flanigan posted a 1-2 finish in the men's 400m-freestyle with times of 4:22.01 and 4:36.80, respectively. It was the sixth consecutive swimming event won by the Forester men.

Freshman Victoria Miller won the women's 3m-diving competition with 181.75 points while Ogawa's score of 328.10 was the best in the men's event.

The final individual event win of the afternoon was recorded by Dalecky in the 100m-breaststroke. Her last competitive swim in the Lake Forest pool lasted 1:19.44.

Johnson, Bunting, Freedberg, and Huey closed out the meet with a victory and time of 1:37.27 in the 200m-medley relay.

The Forester men will finish the 2016-17 season with a 4-2 dual meet record while the women are 2-3-1.

The Lake Forest divers will compete in the UIC Diving Invitational next Saturday. The next meet for the rest of the team will be the Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College February 17-19.
