The Lake Forest College men's hockey team was defeated 5-3 by visiting Adrian College, the nation's 10th-ranked team, Saturday afternoon. Forester freshman Anthony Martinez had a goal and an assist in the contest.
The goal by Martinez tied the game at one at the 6:43 mark of the opening period. His second score this season was assisted by fellow freshmen Bobby Barrett and Jason McAloon.
Adrian scored its first goal while on the power play less than two minutes into the game. After the Foresters tied the score, the Bulldogs regained the lead at 16:45 and was ahead 2-1 at the first intermission.
The Foresters were out-shot 18-12 in the second but scored the only two goals of the period. Senior Ben Finney lit the lamp for the second time this season at 7:05 and freshman Luke Swardenski gave the home team the lead with his sixth of the year at 14:39. Both goals were scored on the power play and assisted by junior Thomas Bark. Sophomore David Milne also assisted on Finney's score and Martinez helped set up Finney's.
Adrian tied the score at the 3:21 mark of the third period and took the lead just 27 seconds later. The visitors added an insurance goal at 6:46 and held the Foresters scoreless the rest of the way, despited the home team's 17-12 advatnage in shots in the period.
After finishing with 45 saves the previous night, Lake Forest junior goaltender Brendan Sullivan registered 40 on Saturday.
Lake Forest fell to 3-18-0 overall and 3-13-0 in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association play while Adrian raised its overall record to 15-5-1 and league mark to 13-2-1.
The Foresters will play a home-and-home series against Milwaukee School of Engineering next weekend. The teams will face off in Lake Forest at 7:00 Friday night and in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the same time on Saturday.
