Lake Forest College softball player Jessi Werner was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after helping lead the team to a perfect 5-0 record at the Midwest Conference Classic last weekend.
Werner, a sophomore pitcher, posted a 0.78 earned run average in her three complete game victories. She blanked Ripon College 10-0 in six innings on Friday and tossed the 13th no-hitter in program history in an 8-0, five-inning triumph over Beloit College on Saturday. Although she finally allowed a pair of runs in Sunday's 15-2 win over St. Norbert College, she struck out a career-high 12 batters in the contest, including the first seven hitters she faced.
Opponents hit just .167 against Werner on the weekend and she recorded 21 strikeouts in 18 innings of work. She is now 10-3 with a 1.92 ERA and 87 strikeouts in 84 innings on the year.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Werner also earned the award on March 20 and once as a freshman.
