Handball player Isaac Acosta was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday after earning All America honors at the United States Handball Association Collegiate National Championships last weekend.
Acosta, a senior, partnered with sophomore C.J. Laffey and claimed their second straight national title in doubles. They won the first set in the championship match 21-13 but fell 21-10 in the second. Their title defense was complete when they eeked out an 11-10 victory in the tiebreaker. Acosta and Laffey became the first Forester doubles team to repeat as national champs in 30 years.
Acosta was also a semifinalist in Open Singles for the third year in a row. He was defeated by the eventual champion.
Lake Forest claimed its fifth consecutive men's and overall titles while finishing second in the women's team standings.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
