Four members of the Lake Forest College women's tennis team traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan to compete in this weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships. Seniors Christi Valicenti and Grace Dowling upset the #2 seed in the second round to advance to Saturday's round of 16.
Valicenti and Dowling rolled in their opening round match, defeating a team from Monmouth College 8-0. Denison University's top tandem, the #2 seed in the event, was next and the Foresters were up to the task, pulling out a 9-7 victory. They will face the #14 seeded team at 9:00 Saturday morning.
Lake Forest freshman Billie Rodman and Allison Watts were also victorious in the first round, posting an 8-5 win over a team from the College of Wooster. The fell 8-2 in the second round, however, to the #13 seeds from Hope College.
Valicenti led the Foresters in singles, advancing to the round of 32 for the second year in a row. She defeated a player from Elmhurst College 6-3, 6-1 in the first round and a competitor from Oberlin College 6-1, 6-0 in the second. She will take on the top seed in the region at noon on Saturday.
Dowling, Rodman, and Watts were each defeated in their first round singles matches and will begin play in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
