Holding strong at the top of the Midwest Conference, Lake Forest women's soccer clinched a spot in the conference tournament with their 1-0 victory over Cornell College on Saturday.
The game was scoreless for the first half of play and most of the second. The game-winning goal came off the foot of freshman Anna Hoffman in the 85th minute off a cornerkick taken by senior Alyssa Xanos. It was Hoffman's seventh goal of the season and Xanos's fifth assist.
Lake Forest dominated possession for most of the game; they also outshot their opponents 10-5. The Foresters had seven shots on goal against the Rams' four.
With this shutout, Forester goalie Maggie Kersting has now tied two school records: career shutouts (18) and season shutouts (8). She made four saves during the 90 mintues she was in goal.
The Foresters remain undefeated in conference play with a record of 6-0; they hold a 10-3-3 overall record. Cornell moves to 3-11-2 overall 2-2-1 in conference.
Lake Forest plays again at home on Saturday, October 22 at 11 a.m. against Knox College.
