Lake Forest College women's soccer player Becky Esrock was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® second team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve player on a university or college team and have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. CoSIDA members nominate student-athletes from their schools and vote for the winners at the district level. A national committe selects the Capitol One Academic All-America® teams.
Esrock, a junior economics and international relations major with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average, earned the award as a defensive player. She moved from forward to sweeper after six games and helped lead the Foresters to a 12-2-1 record with nine shutouts the rest of the season. In addition to preventing opponents from scoring, Esrock also netted six goals and added two assists herself, and now ranks third in program history with 39 goals and 93 points in her career.
Lake Forest posted a 14-6-1 overall record this season and went 8-1-1 in Midwest Conference play to claim the program's first conference championship since 2004. The Foresters also captured the 2012 MWC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003.
