The Forester women's hockey team prevailed 6-1 at Lawrence University on Sunday after defeating the Vikings 8-0 at home the previous night.
Each of Sunday's goals was scored by a different player, beginning with freshman forward Emma Sweeney's fourth of the season at 3:47 in the opening period. Sophomore forward Lauren Wensel netted what proved to be the official game-winner less than two minutes later and senior forward Samantha Shoebottom's tally late in the period gave the visitors a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Wenzel now has five goals on the year and Shoebottom a team-high 12.
Lake Forest added to its lead midway through the second period on junior forward Caitlin Dahut's second score of the weekend and third this winter. Freshman defenseman Willow Poppleton recorded the second assist of the day on the play.
It remained a 4-0 game until the Vikings got on the scoreboard at the 6:54 mark of the third period.
The Foresters regained their four-goal advantage at 11:32 on senior defenseman Karya Dean's fourth of the season. Lake Forest closed out the scoring at the 18:04 mark with the only power play goal of the afternoon. It was the third tally of the year for freshman forward Zara Post.
Lake Forest outshot Lawrence 61-14 in the contest and 136-31 on the weekend.
Forester senior goaltender Hannah Turnage made 13 saves on Sunday, including 10 in the second period, and stopped 30 of 31 shots on goal in the series.
The victory raised Lake Forest's overall record to 11-7-3 and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association mark to 6-4-2. The Vikings fell to 3-18-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.
The Foresters will host Trine University next weekend with Friday's game beginning at 3:00 p.m. and Saturday's Parents Day contest an hour earlier.
