Freshman forward Marissa Gebauer's first career goal was the official game-winner as Lake Forest hosted and defeated College of St. Scholastica 2-1 on Saturday.
Gebauer was assisted by senior forward Maddie Davis and sophomore forward Abigail Tucci with just 26 seconds remaining in the opening period. It followed the first score of the season by junior forward Mackenzie Kamm at the 5:26 mark. Kamm was set up by sophomore defenseman Olyvia Opsahl, who leads the team with three assists on the year.
St. Scholastica got on the scoreboard in the middle of the second period but was unable to draw even against Forester senior goaltender Jacque Rogers. Rogers made 27 saves in the game and improved to 1-1-0 on the season.
Both teams put 28 shots on goal and the game included just three penalties, one on the Saints in the first period and one on the home team in each of the last two.
Lake Forest also defeated St. Scholastica 6-5 on Friday and the sweep of the first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series of the year evened the Foresters overall record 2-2-0. The Saints fell to 1-5-0.
The Foresters will continue league play next weekend at Aurora University, where the teams will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
