Thanks in large part to a program record 72 at the Marian Invite, women's golfer Chloe Morrissey was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday.
Morrissey's round of even-par 72 broke by one stroke the previous team record set by Allie Girard in September of 2016. It was also nine shots better than any of the other 38 golfers at an event where the Foresters finished second as a team. Morrissey birdied two of the first three holes on the 5,802-yard course at Whispering Spring in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. She carded additional birdies on 8, 10, and 17 and added eight pars during the round.
Lake Forest was back in action on Sunday at a triangular hosted by Benedictine University. Morrissey was once again the top golfer in the field, finishing with a 78 to edge out teammate Amanda Lee by a single shot. Her round included a birdie and 10 pars on the par-71 course and the Foresters were once again the runners-up.
Morrissey's team posted yet another second-place finish at the Judson Invite on Tuesday and she tied for 10th in the 44-player field with an 87.
For the week Morrissey averaged 79 shots per round and her scoring average for the season is now 82.5, which would be the best in school history by nearly a stroke per 18 holes.
Forester Athlete of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
