College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Teams for cross country and track on Wednesday and four Lake Forest College runners were listed.
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must be the equivalent of starters or important reserves and have competed in at least half of the team's contests. They must maintain at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale at their current institution and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Lake Forest's honorees were seniors Julián Cano and Lionel Whitehead from the men's team and sophomore Delfina Jorgensen and junior Becca Ray from the women's team.
Cano studied abroad in the fall, missing the cross country season, but competed in track during the spring semester. He finished 24th in the 3000m with a time of 10:38.41 at the 2023 Midwest Conference Indoor Championship Meet in February and posted a season-best 5000m time of 18:33.62 during the outdoor season.
Whitehead registered the Forester cross country team's fastest 8-kilometer time of the season with a 29:45.2 on October 15. He also turned in the track team's best time in the indoor mile (4:50.90) and outdoor 800m (2:04.50) and 1500m (4:22.60). The team captain's mark in the 800 ranks tied-for-fifth in program history.
Jorgensen also served as a captain in cross country and track. She was Lake Forest's top finisher and 39th overall at the 2022 MWC Cross Country Championships. She helped the sprint distance medley relays place at the 2023 MWC Indoor Championships and was the team's top 1500m runner with a 5:46.12 during the outdoor season.
Ray placed 20th in the 800m at the MWC Indoor Championship Meet in February. She finished in the same place with a career-best time of 2:42.71 and helped the 4x400m relay team set a program record with a clocking of 4:25.12 at the MWC Outdoor Championships in May.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late June.
