The Lake Forest College track team is at Grinnell College this weekend for the 2023 Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship Meet. Three Forester sprinters posted program record times and qualified for the finals on Saturday.
Sophomore Matthew Lungu was the first of the three, finishing second in heat two of the 400m in 50.92 seconds. It was the sixth-fastest time in the 24-runner field and .87 seconds faster than the previous school record clocking of 51.79 set by Lungu two weeks ago. His 23.13 in the 200m was also the best on the team and missed the program record by just a hundredth of a second.
The women's 100m was the next event on the track and Forester freshman AJ Jones was also second in her heat with a team record time of 12.67 seconds. She ranked fifth out of 24 competitors in the race overall.
Sophomore Mary Radziewicz, whose mark Jones broke, turned in a program record of her own in the 200m, where she ranked seventh in the field in 26.34 seconds.
While he did not qualify for the finals, freshman Mason Wright added to the school records on Friday with a time of 11.23 in the men's 100m.
Freshman Jacquelyn Han nearly gave Lake Forest a fourth finalist, missing out by just one place by finishing ninth in the 400m hurdles in 1:15.05.
In addition to the finals in the 100m, 200m, and 400m, Lake Forest runners will also be competing in the 800m and both relay events on Saturday.
