The Forester Athletes of the Week were announced on Tuesday and AJ Jones of women's track and Nick Wiencek of men's hockey were the two honorees. This is the first time Jones has earned the distinction in her career; Wiencek was last honored on November 2, 2021.
Jones, a frehman, set a pair of school records at the meet, completing the 55m in 7.92 seconds and the 200m in 28.17. She placed third out of a dozen competitors in the 200.
Wiencek played both games this past weekend as the Foresters faced off against #3 Adrian University. The senior goaltender helped lead his team to a 4-4 tie on Friday evening and 5-3 win Saturday. During Friday's contest, Wiencek made 38 saves, including three in the final 10 minutes of the third period and four more in a scoreless five-minute overtime. He added 39 saves to his weekend total in the game on Saturday; he stopped each of the last 26 shots on goal he faced.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays.
