The 2014 NCAA Division III Championship Meet will be held in Indianapolis this Wednesday through Saturday and a pair of Foresters will be in the field. Junior Christina Pekar is making her second straight appearance and freshman Sam Freedberg is the first Lake Forest College male to qualify in 14 years.
Freedberg will be the first of the two to compete when he swims the 200-IM on Wednesday. He is ranked 44th in the event.
Both Foresters will be in action on Thursday, beginning with Freedberg in the morning prelims of his best event, the 400-IM. He is ranked tied-for-20th among the participants in the event. Pekar will be part of the 1-meter diving competition on Thursday. She placed 10th in the event to earn College Swim Coaches Association of America Honorable Mention All-American honors last year.
Freedberg will finish his first collegiate season on Friday in the 200-butterfly, where he ranks 33rd.
The women's 3-meter diving event is on Saturday. Pekar was also a CSCAA Honorable Mention All-American off the higher board in 2013 after finishing 12th.
The Forester women's team has had at least one member score points at the NCAA Championships in nine of the last 10 years and 26 times since 1982. The last Lake Forest male to accomplish the feat was Rob Edgell in 2000 and the Foresters have been listed in the men's team standings 17 times since 1976.
