Forester freshman swimmer Sam Freedberg was added to the list of competitors for the 2014 NCAA Division III Championships on Monday. He joins junior diver Christina Pekar in representing Lake Forest College at the national meet.
Freedberg was ranked tied-for-21st in the country in the 400-IM. Freedberg's "B-cut" and Midwest Conference record time of 4:01.06 was posted at the MCW Championships on February 15. He also recorded a school record and "B-cut" time of 1:53.48 in the 200-IM at the MWC Championships on February 14. He is the first Forester male to qualify for the national meet since Lake Forest College Athletic Hall of Famer Rob Edgell earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in three events in 2000.
Pekar qualified for the 2014 NCAA Championships by placing fifth in both the 3-meter and 1-meter competition at last weekend's NCAA Division III Regional Meet. She also qualified for the national meet last year, where she earned Honorable Mention All-American honors off both boards, finishing 10th in the 1-meter event and 12th in the 3-meter competition.
This year's NCAA Division III Championship Meet will be held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The event will begin on Wednesday, March 19, and conclude on Saturday, March 22. Freedberg will compete in the 200-IM on Wednesday, 400-IM on Thursday, and 200-butterfly on Friday. The women's 1-meter diving competition will occur on Thursday and the 3-meter event on Saturday.
