The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams swept Illinois Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon, winning 156-11 on the women's side and 181-20 on the men's. Senior Zachary Wenner anchored the men's 800m-freestyle relay, which broke the pool record with a time of 8:00.31.
Wenner closed out the race with a 200m-freestyle split of 1:57.74, nearly 10 seconds faster than the winner of that individual event earlier in the meet. The rest of the relay team was made up of sophomores Kristofer Korth and Armel Cazedepats and freshman Drake Nickell.
Lake Forest swimmers and divers finished first in all but one of the meet's 24 events. Wenner and Korth were also part of the Foresters' winning 200m-medley relay team (1:51.80) before placing first in the 200m-IM (2:14.40) and 100m-freestyle (55.62), respectively. Sophomore Alex Dunn was also part of three victories on the women's side, out-sprinting the field in the 50m-freestyle (28.27) and 100m-freestyle (1:03.72) before leading off for the victorious 800m-freestyle relay team, which finished in 9:26.28.
Freshman Orion Huey and senior Garr Punnett joined Wenner and Korth on the 200-medley relay. Junior Kelsie Miller, sophomores Peyton Sukenic and Brooke Rowley, and senior Sarah Stoklosa won the women's race in 2:16.18. Dunn was followed by freshman Emily Bowens, Miller, and freshman Lily Thorsen on the 800m-freestyle relay team.
Punnett also placed first in the 100m-backstroke in 59.83 seconds, Stoklosa won the 200m-IM in 2:39.34, and Rowley touched the wall first in the 100-butterfly in 1:11.79.
Junior Christina Pekar and freshman Mateusz Obstoj swept the diving events. Peker tallied 253.35 points off the 1-meter board and 278.40 in the 3-meter competition. Obstoj finished with 233.55 in the 1-meter event and 229.75 off the higher board.
The Forester men finished the dual meet portion of their schedule with a record of 7-1 and the women 5-3. After a weekend off from competition, Lake Forest will compete in the 2014 Midwest Conference Championships at Grinnell College February 14-16.
