Foresters Sweep Double Dual with Carroll and Lawrence

Foresters Sweep Double Dual with Carroll and Lawrence

The Lake Forest College swimming & diving teams defeated Carroll University and host Lawrence University on Saturday. The Foresters won 19 events on the day, including all 13 in the men's competition. Freshman Mateusz Obstoj's scores in both diving events rank him among the top three in program history.

Obstoj tallied 278.45 points in the 3-meter competition, just 7.75 points shy of the program record set by Guy Stehley in 1980. He now ranks second in team history in the event. He also won the 1-meter event with 250.95 points, which ranks him third.

Just as Obstoj swept the men's diving competition, junior Christina Pekar placed first in both women's diving events. She finished with 295.05 points in the 3-meter competition to edge out her sister for first place. She also came out on top off the 1-meter board with 264.85 points.

The Forester men began the afternoon with a victory by freshman Orion Huey, sophomore Kristofer Korth, senior Garr Punnett, and freshman Travis Johnson in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:40.98.

Lake Forest's victories in the nine individual men's swimming events were each recorded by a different swimmer, beginning with junior Mitchell Reiner in the 1000-freestyle, where his time of 10:23.92 was nearly 10 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Senior Loren Dutca made it a Forester sweep with a winning time of 10:57.91 in the women's race.

Freshman James Haney touched the wall first in the 200-freestyle with a time of 1:52.09 and classmate Drake Nickell prevailed in the 50-freestyle in 22.43 seconds. Sophomore Alex Dunn gave Lake Forest its second sweep on the day when she won the women's 50-free in 25.35 seconds.

The next event was the 200-IM, where Punnett out-distanced the field by almost 10 seconds with a time of 1:59.46.

After a break for diving, freshman Sam Freedberg finished first with a time of 53.12 seconds in the 100-butterfly and Johnson touched the wall first in the 100-freestyle in 50.25 seconds. Dunn proved once again to be the top sprinter among the teams' female competitors, taking the women's 100-freestyle in 55.49 seconds.

Lake Forest senior Zachary Wenner won the 100-backstroke in 56.46 seconds and freshman Virgil Thomas led a 1-2-3-4 Forester finish in the 500-freestyle with a time of 5:00.82. The final individual event was the 100-breaststroke, where freshman Ryan Keast's 1:03.59 was good for first place.

Huey, Punnett, Reiner, and Freedberg finished off the sweep of men's events by winning the 200-freestyle relay in 1:29.90.

Lake Forest's victory over Carroll on the men's side was by a score of 148-73 and the team defeated Lawrence 150-46. The Forester women defeated Carroll 131-103 and Lawrence 133-95.

The Lake Forest men raised their record on the season to 5-1 whilte the women evened their mark at 3-3. Both teams will celebrate Alumni Day next Saturday during a dual meet against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The contest will begin at 1:00 p.m.
