Lake Forest College swimmer Kristofer Korth was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for his performance at Carthage College's Winter Classic over the weekend.
Korth, a sophomore, helped lead the Forester men to a runner-up finish at the meet, their best performance in 10 years of participation in the event. On Friday he posted a conference-best time of 59.86 seconds in the prelims of the 100-breaststroke and tied for third in the event in the evening finals. He also led off the 800-freestyle relay with a 200-freestyle time of 1:46.49, which ranks third in the league so far this season. Lake Forest finished second in the event with a school record time of 7:02.75. He also competed on the team's 400-medley relay that placed third in the meet and fifth in school history in 3:34.66. Both relays posted the fastest times in the MWC so far this season.
Saturday was just as busy and successful for Korth, who won the 1650-freestyle in 16:36.45, a time that ranks him first in the league and second in team history and would have won the event at the 2012 MWC Championships. His 1000-freestyle split of 9:59.64 during the race also ranks second in team annals. Korth also placed fifth in the 400-IM, where his prelim time of 4:16.77 is the second-fastest in the conference this season, and third in the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:08.25, which is a league-best. He finished off his day by swimming a leg on the team's 400-freestyle relay that finished fourth in the race with a time of 3:14.82.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director.
