Lake Forest College swimmer Garr Punnett was named Midwest Conference Performer of the Week on Tuesday for his performance in the Foresters' 187-93 victory over visiting Carthage College on Saturday.
Punnett, a senior, led off the Foresters' 400m-medley relay, the first event of the meet. Lake Forest led by more than two-and-a-half seconds after the backstroke and continued pulling away for an eight-second win and a time of 4:03.66, one second off the pool record. Punnett also won the 100m-backstroke in 1:00.69 and the 100m-butterfly in 57.62 seconds and his margin of victory in the two events combined was more than six seconds. The final even of the meet was the 400m-freestyle relay and Punnett, who swam the second leg, took the lead for the Foresters, who won in 3:39.95.
It was the second straight season that Punnett posted four victories against the Red Men.
MWC Performers of the Week are selected by the league's sports information director. Punnett also earned the award once as a freshman and in back-to-back weeks last November.
