The Forester swimming & diving teams hosted and defeated Monmouth College on Saturday in the season opener for both programs. Sophomore Loren Dutca won three times to lead the Lake Forest women to a 132-60 victory. The Foresters men prevailed 118-50.
Lake Forest won all but four of the meet's 26 events, including 12 out of 13 on the women's side. Dutca finished first in the 800m-freestyle in 9:50.62 and 100m-freestyle in 1:03.22 and led off the victorious 200m-freestyle relay team, which won in 2:01.18. Sophomore Garr Punnett and freshman Kevin Barbrick were also part of three victories for the Forester men. After they made up half of the winning 200m-medley relay team (1:54.06), Punnett won the 200m-IM (2:16.45) and 100m-freestyle (55.31) while Barbrick placed first in the 50m-freestyle (25.10) and 100m-butterfly (1:00.97).
The Foresters' other double event winners were freshman Kelsie Miller in the 50m-freestyle (29.70) and 100m-butterfly (1:11.22) and sophomore Sarah Stoklosa in the 200m-IM (2:37.79) and 400m-freestyle (4:54.34). Sophomore diver Matt Perry was unopposed but posted career-best scores in the 3-meter (209.05) and 1-meter (204.75) competition.
Senior Amy Finn touched the wall first in the 200m-freestyle (2:17.53), junior Kelsey Hoeper in the 100m-backstroke (1:13.31), junior Becky Shaak in the 100m-breaststroke (1:18.55), and freshman Garrett Ballreich in the 100m-breaststroke (1:11.01). Freshman diver Christina Pekar's score of 219.85 off the 1-meter board and senior Jade Perkins' mark of 202.00 off the 3-meter board were the highest point totals in those events.
Lake Forest will host Carthage College next Saturday at noon.
