The Lake Forest College men's tennis team hosted and defeated Illinois Institute of Technology 8-1 on Saturday at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
The Foresters swept the doubles matches and the first to finish was #3, where junior Eduardo Manuitt and sophomore Kyle Lassen did not drop a game. Freshmen George Ciuca and Ian Villardi Venturini Barbosa prevailed 8-3 at #2 and the closest match of the day came at #3, where senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk teamed up with sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy for an 8-5 triumph. It was the 41st career doubles win for Vyshyvnyuk, tying him for 10th place in program history.
Vyshyvanyuk was the first to finish in singles, defeating the Scarlet Hawks' top player 6-4 in the first set and 6-0 in the second. Illinois Tech earned its only point of the match at #2 but Ciuca followed with a 6-3, 6-2 win at #3 to clinch the Forester victory. Lassen took both sets 6-1 at #6, Villardi Venturini Barbosa came out on top 6-3, 6-2 at #3, and Manuitt reversed those set scores in his win at #5.
The Foresters improved to 2-2 while Illinois Tech fell to 0-3 in the season.
Lake Forest will continue its third consecutive home match Wednesday night at 9:00 against Roosevelt University.
