The Midwest Conference released its 2023 Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll last Friday and the Foresters were second on the list.
Voting is done by the MWC head men's tennis coaches. Each coach votes for the other six schools in the league in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (six points for first, five for second, etc.). Coaches may not vote for their own teams.
With 31 points, the Foresters trailed only defending conference champion Grinnell College (36) in the poll. Grinnell received six of the seven first-place votes and Lake Forest the other.
The Foresters return all but one member of the regular starting lineup from 2021-22, which went 12-9 overall and 5-1 in the conference. Senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk was named MWC Player of the Year a season ago after caturing conference titles at #1 singles and #1 doubles. Sophomore Daniel Tulchinskiy was his doubles partner and the MWC Newcomer of the Year. Three other players had runner-up performances in both singles and doubles at the conference championships.
After playing in three events in the fall, the Foresters will open the spring at Wheaton College on Saturday, February 4. Under third-year head coach Scot Reinhart, the team will begin league play against Grinnell and Cornell College at home on April 8 and will complete its six-match conference schedule on April 22. The top four teams in the standings will compete in the MWC Tournament at Hitters SportsPlex in Middleton, Wisconsin, on April 28 and the MWC Individual Tournaments will be played the next two days at the same location.
Lake Forest qualified for its seventh consecutive MWC Tournament last spring and played in the championship match for the sixth time during that span.
