Freshman Trevor Allen and junior Ellis Lora-Arceo each won twice as the Lake Forest College men's tennis team prevailed 6-3 at Cornell College Saturday morning. The Foresters were defeated 9-0 at Grinnell College later in the day.
Allen and Lora-Arceo defeated the Rams' #2 doubles team 8-2 but the visitors still trailed 2-1 going into single play.
Allen was the first to finish in singles and his 6-1, 6-2 victory at #2 tied the match. Sophomore Dan Pivonka then finished off a 6-4, 6-2 victory at #1 but Cornell came out on top at #3 and the contest was knotted again at 3-3. Junior Dragan Trivanovic triumphed 6-0, 6-1 at #5 to put the Foresters back on top and a 6-1, 6-0 win by Lora-Arceo at #4 clinched the match for Lake Forest. Freshman Karl Fehn closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at #6.
After an hour-and-a-half drive from Cornell to Grinnell, the Foresters were swept by the league's defending champions.
The split of Lake Forest's first two Midwest Conference matches of the season left the Foresters with an overall record of 8-7. Cornell fell to 9-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Grinnell, the 14th-ranked team in the Central Region, is now 21-5 overall and 3-0 in the MWC.
Lake Forest will continue league play at home against Carroll University on Tuesday. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
