Men's tennis player Ellis Lora-Arceo was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance at the Midwest Conference Team and Individual Tournaments last weekend.
Lora-Arceo, a sophomore, began the weekend by helping lead Lake Forest to a dramatic 5-4 victory over Monmouth College in the semifinals of Friday's Team Tournament. He partnered with freshman Nick Rehm on an 8-4 win at #3 doubles just five days after losing by the same score at Monmouth. Lora-Arceo also dropped a three-set decision at #3 singles at Monmouth but came out on top on Friday, once again in three sets. After coming back to win the opening set 7-5, he overcame a 5-2 deficit in the second before falling in a tiebreaker. The team score was already 4-4 before his third set began and Lora-Arceo trailed 3-1 before taking the next five games to secure the Forester victory. Lake Forest then fell 5-0 to Grinnell in the final.
The six positional singles tournaments were played out on Saturday and Lora-Arceo won 6-1, 6-2 over the #3 player from St. Norbert College in the quarterfinals and 6-4, 6-1 against Carroll University in the semifinals. He was unable to continue his run in the final, where he dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision to Grinnell.
Lora-Arceo and Rehm defeated the #3 doubles teams from Cornell College (8-0) and St. Norbert College (8-4) to advance to the championship match in Sunday's individual tournaments. There they were defeated for the second time on the weekend by their counterparts from Grinnell.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
