The Lake Forest College men's tennis team competed at the Midwest Conference Individual Tournaments over the weekend and placed among the top four in the league at every position in the lineup. Highlighting play on Sunday was a runner-up performance by sophomore Ellis Lora-Arceo and freshman Nick Rehm at #3 doubles.
Lora-Arceo and Rehm blanked their counterparts from Cornell College 8-0 in the quarterfinals and added an 8-4 victory against St. Norbert College to reach the championship match. Grinnell's #3 pairing proved to be too much in the final, where the Foresters were defeated 8-4. Lora-Arceo was also the league's runner-up at #3 singles.
Freshman Dan Pivonka and junior John Snider competed at the top spot in the doubles lineup. They defeated the best from Monmouth 8-3 in the quarterfinals but fell 8-4 to Grinnell in the next round.
Junior Mike Riley and sophomore Dragan Trivanovic came out on top of an 8-5 decision i the quarterfinals at #2 before being defeated 8-0 by the eventual champions from Grinnell in the semifinal round.
Lora-Arceo finished the season with a team-high 16 doubles wins, matching the seventh-highest total in program history. Pivonka was next with 15 victories, which is now tied-for-10th in team annals, and his 14 triumphs at #1 ties the school record set by Alex Presman in 2007.
Lake Forest finished the year with an overall dual match record of 14-12 and the Foresters were 7-2 in MWC contests. On Friday they advanced to the conference championship match for the fifth time since the league began sponsoring a team tournament in 1999.
