The Forester men's tennis team hosted and defeated Knox College 8-1 on Thursday. Lake Forest senior Nick Cantor finished off the contest with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-4, (10-8) triumph at #6 singles.
The match began with the home team taking two of three doubles points. Sophomores Ryan Kreis and Anthony Warren were the first to finish with an 8-2 win at #1. Junior John Adams and senior Elliot Muth followed with an 8-3 victory at #2.
Kreis and Warren were also the first players done with their singles matches. Kreis, who was listed 11th in the ITA Regional rankings released earlier in the day, did not lose a game at the top spot in the lineup and Warren won 6-3, 6-0 at #4. Adams defeated the #2 player from Knox 6-2, 6-1 and Forester freshman Anthony Mykhaylovskyy came from behind to prevail 2-6, 6-3, (10-5) at #5. Muth put Lake Forest ahead 7-1 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #3 and Cantor finished off the rout of the Prairie Fire with his super tiebreak win at #6.
The Foresters are now 7-8 overall and finished the Midwest Conference South Division portion of their schedule with two wins and two losses. Knox fell to 4-11 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Lake Forest will play a pair of matches at Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday. The Foresters are scheduled to take on St. Ambrose University at 12:30 in the afternoon and the hosts at 4:00 p.m.
