The Lake Forest College men's tennis team was defeated 7-2 by Grinnell College before winning by the same score against host Illinois College on Saturday. Forester sophomore Ryan Kries dropped a total of just two games in his two #1 singles matches on the day.
Kreis won 6-1, 6-1 at the top spot in the singles lineup against Grinnell. Unfortunately for the Foresters, they already trailed 7-0 when his match ended. Junior John Adams made it a 7-2 final by defeated the Pioneers' #2 singles player 6-3, 6-0.
It was the first Midwest Conference South Division match of the season for Lake Forest and the second for Grinnell, who defeated Illinois College 9-0 earlier in the day. The Pioneers raised their overall record on the season to 16-5.
The Foresters took two of three doubles matches against Illinois College. Senior Tommy White and freshman Andy Chou were the first to finish after blanking their opponent 8-0 at #3. Kreis and Adams prevailed 8-1 at #1.
Kreis blanked the Blueboys best player 6-0, 6-0 and was the first to finish in singles. Adams was next after winning by the same score at #2. Chou earned his first career singles victory, a 6-3, 7-5 triumph at #6. Sophomore Kevin Lasky added a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win at #5 and classmate Jerry Wang prevailed 6-1, 6-4 at #4.
Lake Forest is now 6-6 overall this season. Illinois College fell to 1-7.
The Foresters will complete the MWC South Division portion of their schedule with home matches against Monmouth College at 3:00 next Friday afternoon and Knox College on Thursday, April 12, at 4:00 p.m.
