The Lake Forest College men's tennis team edged out host Lawrence University 5-4 on Saturday. The match was tied 4-4 before Forester senior Elliot Muth pulled out a decisive three-set win at #3 singles.
Muth and junior John Adams helped the visitors take the early lead with an 8-5 victory at #1 doubles. Sophomore Ryan Kreis and freshman Nathan Wang won by the same score at #2 and the Foresters carried a 2-1 advantage into seingles play.
After suffering a loss at #4, Kreis finished off a 6-4, 6-4 triumph at #1 to regain the lead for Lake Forest. Adams' convincing 6-0, 6-1 victory at #2 put the Foresters ahead 4-2 but losses at #5 and #6 evened the team score. Muth won the first set 6-3 but fell 6-1 in the second. He converted on his second chance at match point to take the third set 6-4.
The Foresters are now 2-1 on the season while the Vikings fell to 1-1.
Lake Forest's next match will be the team's home opener against Cornell College on Friday, March, 2. The contest will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be played at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
