The Lake Forest College men's tennis team edged out host North Central College 5-4 on Sunday. Forester senior Jon Flaksman won both of his matches on the day.
Flaksman and freshman Ryan Kreis earned the visitors' only point in double play with an 8-3 victory at #2. Sophomore John Adams and junior Elliot Muth were narrowly defeated 9-8 (7-2) at #1 by the Central Region's 13th-ranked doubles team.
The Foresters fell at #1 and #6 singles but won at the four spots in between. Muth prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at #3 and Flaksman posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #4. After falling 6-3 in the first set at #5, senior Chris Paterakos fought off a match point in the second set tiebreaker before winning it 10-8 and the third set 6-2. Adams earned the team's victory-clinching fifth point at #2. He took the first set 6-3, fell 7-5 in the second, but won the match with a 6-4 triumph in the third.
Lake Forest raised its record on the season to 11-7 while the Cardinals fell to 6-9.
The Foresters will play another non-conference match at Carroll University tomorrow afternoon at 3:30.
