The Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated visiting Illinois Wesleyan University 5-4 Wednesday evening, raising its record on the season to 9-5. Freshman Ryan Kreis was one of two Foresters to win twice on the day.
Kreis and senior Jon Flaksman posted the home team's only doubles victory, an 8-3 triumph at #2. It was their seventh consecutive win.
The matches at each of the top three spots in the singles lineup needed a third-set super-tiebreaker to decide and Lake Forest came out on top of two of them. Kreis defeated the Titans' top player 6-3 in the first set but fell by the same score in the second. He then prevailed 10-3 in the super-tiebreaker to take the match. Forester junior Elliot Muth's match at #3 was even closer. He won the first set 6-4 but fell 6-4 in the second before taking the super-tiebreaker 10-6.
Flaksman registered a 6-4, 6-2 victory at #4 and Lake Forest led 4-3 with #5 and #6 singles still out on the court. Senior Chris Paterakos then claimed an 8-2 victory at #5 to clinch the match.
The Foresters will host Adrian College at 9:00 Sunday morning.
